by Laurent Glatz – for Athletic Carnivore
They know. Or at least, they think they do.
They prescribe, dose, measure, advise.
They talk about cortisol, thyroid, acid-base balance, targeted supplementation, “liver support,” glycemic curves. They draw up plans. Recommend brands. Correct deficiencies. With confidence. Sometimes with arrogance.
But deep down, there’s one point they avoid: the foundation.
What the body is supposed to do naturally, without crutches, without additions, without catch-up.
And that’s exactly what we observe when watching them: they compensate. In an endless loop.
The Veneer of Knowledge
Faced with biology they only understand superficially, many “functional health specialists,” whether doctors, naturopaths, coaches, or others, retreat into rigid frameworks. They cling to what they think they master: a molecule, a test, a supplement.
But they forget the essential: the terrain cannot be repaired with tools. It is balanced through lifestyle.
Their approach, often well-intentioned, reveals an inability to think holistically. To step beyond fragments.
They offer zinc for the skin, magnesium for stress, melatonin for sleep, glutathione for the liver…
But no questioning of the basic diet, metabolic load, nervous system, or real connection to the body.
This is not science. It’s patchwork.
What We Measure Replaces What We Feel
The more we measure, the less we perceive. That’s a fact.
The over-quantification of biological data disconnects the individual from their own experience.
We eat “correctly” according to the app, but no longer recognize true hunger.
We follow our “adrenal support protocol,” but ignore that we’ve been in chronic overload for 10 years.
We take D3, omega-3, glycine… and wreck our liver on a background of oxalate-rich vegetables and poorly managed stress.
This is the drift: optimizing without coherence.
What Humans Knew… Before Trying to Explain Everything
100,000 years ago, humans had no books, no tests, no supplements.
They ate according to the season, effort, and need. They didn’t calculate.
Yet they thrived. Because they lived according to their internal constants, not imported theories.
We started with no models.
We simply observed.
We saw what changed when we removed sugar. When we cut out irritating plants. When we let the body regain control.
Then we sought to understand why it worked.
What This Reveals
Those who begin by theorizing, dosing, correcting without first observing their raw functioning fix nothing. They just shift the symptom.
They think they’re adjusting the body. In reality, they’re adjusting their discomfort with their own ignorance.
The carnivore, low-carb, or ancestral approach doesn’t promise absolute control.
It offers a stable foundation.
And a stable foundation makes tools almost unnecessary.
So the question isn’t “Which supplement am I missing?”
But rather: “Why do I need a supplement in a body that should function on its own?”
Those who understand this aren’t always the most credentialed.
But often, they are the healthiest.
