# A diploma proves training. It does not prove correctness.

We have developed a curious habit when it comes to nutrition and health: before even listening to an argument, we often check who is making it.
Doctor. Researcher. Professor. PhD. Prestigious university. Renowned institution.
Almost unconsciously, we take a shortcut: the more impressive the title, the more solid the claim seems to us.
The problem is not the diploma.
The problem begins when the diploma replaces the demonstration.
A diploma certifies training, a career path, and generally a certain level of competence. But it does not automatically turn every statement made by its holder into truth. Conversely, lacking a particular title does not prove an idea false either. This is precisely the distinction we defend at Athletic Carnivore: momentarily removing prestige, status, and follower count to return to what truly needs examination—the claim, the method, the data, and the possibility of verification.
This nuance seems obvious.
In practice, it is much less so.
Expertise deserves to be heard, not sanctified
Expertise has real value. Serious training can provide theoretical foundations, methodology, scientific or clinical experience, and sometimes decades of practice.
But expertise and infallibility are two different concepts.
That is why one rule should always apply regardless of who is speaking: **expertise deserves to be listened to, but it never deserves exemption from proof.**
Scientific history itself demands this caution. People from unusual backgrounds have sometimes made major contributions because they observed, measured, experimented, and produced something that withstood verification.
This obviously does not mean that "everyone is equal" or that years of training are useless.
It simply means that a person's authority and the strength of a claim are two things we should avoid confusing.
And this confusion becomes especially problematic in nutrition.
The name at the top of the study does not change its methodology
An observational study remains observational even when it comes from a prestigious institution.
It can identify an interesting association. It can reveal a signal. It can justify further research.
But its institutional prestige does not mechanically transform that association into causality.
This rule must work both ways.
If a study associates high red meat consumption with increased risk, we must look precisely at what it allows us to conclude. If tomorrow another observation linked high meat consumption to greater longevity, we would no more have the right to proclaim that meat extends life.
Otherwise, we no longer select the level of evidence.
We simply select what confirms what we already wanted to believe.
This is precisely where a much more personal question arises.
When you follow a nutritional advice because an expert gave it to you, do you really know **why this advice should work for you**?
The same advice, two bodies, two responses
This is probably one of the most important limitations of general recommendations.
"Eat less."
"Eat more often."
"Cut out carbohydrates."
"Stay in ketosis."
"Eat more carbs for sports."
"Practice intermittent fasting."
Each sentence can be relevant in a given context.
None alone describes the person receiving it.
At Athletic Carnivore, we generally start from a base strongly oriented toward animal-based foods. But that does not mean our goal is to keep every individual on the same protocol, with the same foods, meal frequency, and metabolic fuel all the time. The principle we defend is **the right fuel at the right time**, with special attention to metabolic flexibility.
During sleep, fasting, walking, sprinting, or weight training, energy demands are not identical. The relative contribution of glucose, glycogen, fatty acids, or ketone bodies can change depending on the context.
But knowing this general principle still does not tell you how **you** respond.
And this is precisely where generic advice reaches its limit.
Your problem may no longer be lack of information
Two people can follow a very similar diet and have very different experiences.
One may greatly appreciate a strict structure.
The other may maintain it for three weeks before completely dropping off.
One recovers well from training.
The other accumulates fatigue, performance decline, and frustration.
One tolerates certain restrictions very well.
The other sees sleep, eating behavior, or stress management deteriorate.
This does not automatically prove the diet is good for the first and bad for the second.
It mainly shows that a strategy always exists **within a given terrain**.
Sleep, stress, digestion, dietary history, physical activity, recovery, motivation, and behavior toward restriction can profoundly alter how a strategy is experienced and maintained.
This is also why we use the neuroprofile as a functional framework rather than a label or a supposed magical neurotransmitter dosage. The goal is to understand how a person functions when facing pressure, routine, reward, restriction, or novelty.
The real trap is then to keep correcting the wrong parameter.
Change macros again.
Remove another food.
Add another supplement.
Copy someone else’s protocol.
Then conclude that "nothing works."
The invisible cost is not only lost time. It is also the risk of confusing a signal with its cause and changing what may not have been the main problem.
This is exactly the logic of the work we want to develop: provide enough understanding to identify the problem without pretending that general advice can replace individual case analysis.
The question is no longer: "Who said it?"
The question becomes:
**What demonstrates it?**
Then, immediately after:
**To what extent does this apply to my own case?**
This is where a much more useful approach begins than the diploma contest or diet wars.
At Athletic Carnivore, we do not seek to be right against the facts. We want to build our reasoning with them and accept modifying a position when better data appears.
And when you have already accumulated dozens of hours of videos, books, podcasts, and contradictory advice without understanding why your body still doesn’t respond as expected, the next step may no longer be consuming more information.
It may be knowing **which information is truly relevant to your terrain**.
This is precisely the role of personalized analysis: to move beyond generic advice, reorder variables correctly, and understand what really deserves adjustment before changing your diet again.
**Do you still need another expert to listen to, or do you mostly need to understand why your own body doesn’t respond exactly as expected?**
