A video is circulating. A doctor claims to have mastered Alzheimer’s disease. Forty years of practice, zero patients affected. In the same clip, he admits to knowing nothing about nutrition. Opposite him, a researcher insists that nutrition is the key. The viewer is caught between two authorities. Which one holds up biologically?

The misunderstanding runs deep. We tend to believe that mastering a disease means seeing or not seeing it in one’s practice. We think Alzheimer’s begins in the brain, between neurons, as plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. We assume the gut digests and the brain thinks. The boundary is clear, specialization reassuring. Yet biology has never signed off on this contract.

In February 2026, a study published on medRxiv examined the gut microbiome of patients with early dementia and mild cognitive impairment. The researchers found not just dysbiosis but established a link between recurring dietary patterns and specific microbial profiles that modulate systemic inflammation.
